Restored Croft Village - Gearrannan Blackhouse Village on the Isle of Lewis

Gearrannan Blackhouse Village

When you walk down to the restored village you feel as if you have entered the tardis and travelled back in time, 300 years into the past. The village was inhabited until 1974 when the last occupants moved into modern houses and the village was left to nature. In 1989 the local community trust - the Garenin Trust, started to renovate and restore this wonderful croft village. You can learn more about this project and book some of the restored crofts for a holiday on their website - www.gearrannan.com - having visited this village in 2007 we can tell you it looks fantastic.
